Ulcerative Colitis or Chron's Disease?

Just wondering if anyone else had this wonderfull ailment.

If you don't know what it is and are just curious, ask and I'll fill you in.

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, but things have been pretty good for the past 8 months or so.

Good times.

I spent about two weeks in the hospital when I was first "diagnosed". Test after test. They made me feel like I was abou to die or something.

It's been bad at times, I lost like 30 lbs. in about a month in the begining. What a bitch that was.

I haven't taken my meds in about a year now. (Accacol)

Best of luck my man. Hope you stay well.

thanx bro...

30lbs is that all

i was 200ish when i first seen my docotor with in 3 weeks i was 134lbs!!!!

not shit....i was bad, at time all i did was smoke pot and barely eat
after my endoscope i didnt eat i got high...the next morning my large intense ripped open....and you can only image what happened next... . .
the wrost part was the cat scan or whatever when they make you drink this chalky crap then scan you...how i did that with out puking is behind me...
it was like WTF i came into the ER bleeding and you what me to drink this shit and keep it down for 45 minutes....

i spent a week or so in ICU and lived off an IV and pills

when i got home i started to eat right and quit doing drugs, my bro got me into weights and i havenet looked back

IMO the meds never really helped they just made me go to the bathroom more
i was on like 9 different pills....2 best things i find are fish oil and probioties(spelling)

Chrons i feel is a very beatable problem as long as you eat well and exercise its all good...i also feel that GOD played a role but i wont go into that here

You guys are lucky, 4 years I had no reprieve, 15-30 BM's a day. Prednisone, 6MP, remicade, colazol, 1 year ago they finally took the whole colon out. Now I feel better than ever and quality of life is great.

Damn fella's that's some horible shit, (no pun intended).

Glad you're both doing alright now.

I think at my worst I was having like 12 BM's a day.

I'm scared to death about having to get my colon removed. No one is saying I will have to yet, but that shit scared me. I hate hospitals.

This Girl I'm Dating Now Has Chrons. She Needs To Follow Doctors Orders In Terms Of Diet. Slow Digesting Stuff, She Can't Eat. For Example, Last Night She Had A Big Salad....not Allowed Salad. Well Later On In The Night She Said "i Can Tell I'm Gonna Have To Go To The Hospital" Well, She Called Me This Morning And Ended Up Going. It Sounds Rough As Hell, Having To Go Through That Stuff.

I Told Her She Needs To Get Her Diet In Order And Make A Lifestyle Change, But Not Sure How Well Thats Gonna Turn Out.

On A Funny Note, We've Only Dated For Like Less Than 3 Weeks But We Were Talking One Night And She Said "i Got This Shirt That Says 'girls Don't Poop' And If You Read Up On Chrons, You Know Thats Not True". I Thought That Wasfunny.

Aside From Diet/exercise/drugs, Have You Guys Found Anything Else To Help? Or Is That Pretty Much It.

well, there could be something she's not telling me...but i doubt it. certain things make it act up. drinking, for example, does just that. she doesnt' drink a lot by any means, but just when she decides to, that night or early in the morning, she's in the hospital. she's on passport (government funded aid) so its not like she pays or anything to go. she's also on Remacaid which is like $15k for 3 months of treatment, again, because of the passport she doesn't pay anything. now, if she didn't have the passport, she would probably just have to tough it out with pain meds n such. when she goes to the doc, they give her morphine, delodid(sp) and other pain meds which i don't like because it makes her a zombie. but hey, i like her, its not like i'm gonna bail just because she's always at the doctor.

I, as well as my doc, have found that there is no real set diet. It's pretty much individual to the person. Certain things, like cheese and popcorn and some other ramdom things will definately do some damage to my stomach comfort. My sister has Chron's and she can eat some things I can't go near, and vise versa.
Drinking definately does bother me if I push it. A few beers is cool, but you've got to find the limits of what does and does not bother you.

Some people have it worse than others as well, so that definately plays a pivotal role.

I wish her the best, it's not a fun deal. Stay positive.

thanks man. she was telling me that for the average person, it takes like 5-7 hours to digest red meat, she said it takes her up to 3 days. thats kinda messed up. i'm staying as positive as possible, it hasn't really been problematic...on my part anyway, she's dealt with it for her entire life pretty much, so where as it is a pain in the ass (no pun) i think she's used to it for the most part.

Welcome fellow Crohn'ies :-)

I also have Crohn's disease.... however, I have been doing pretty darn well the past few years POST SURGERY.

4 years ago I had about 8-9 inches of my small intestine removed, about a inch of my large intenstine and a peice of my bladder removed/patched.

Why my bladder? Well... I had started 'spitting and sputtering' when I would go to urinate, foamy as hell... killer back pain... could hardly stand up...

What they discoverd is that the section of my intestines that had the most Crohn's damage was sitting right on top of my bladder, well... a TINY fistula had formed between the infected intestine and the bladder, allowing some 'juices' from my intestine to make it into the super clean (normally) urinary tract... this was NOT PLEASANT!

Anyhow... that was 4 years ago... since then I have been great...

Yes, I have the occassional 'episodes' like everyone else, but nothing like it used to be... I take no meds and haven't seen my doc in a couple years now..

I also lost TONS of weight when first diagnosed, I was diagnosed at the age of 17, so I don't remember just how much.. but it was significant. I am 27 now, had the surgery at 23....

Diet is KEY for me... I can eat what i want with little to no discomfort (except for hot dogs :-) ), but I can tell a HUGE difference in how my belly/gut feels when I eat pretty clean/good versus when I eat crap...

I wish you all the best!

Glad to hear that things are going well.

How is that surgery? How long were you in the hospital? Any ill effects for your "normal" (whatever that means) life?

Just curious.

If I eat too much steak I get some major discomfort for the next day. Weird the way it slows down the digestion.

I had a client who has chrons and we had him taking a very pure ion-X whey isolate in alf servings very frequently, as well as very high dose multivitamin/mineral supplementation and 40-50g glutamine a day to keep the bacteria in his gut happy

he ended up gainins 25lbs. or so and became the "Beast" character on an off-broadway production of Beauty and the Beast

Hi, everyone. I joined the forum today, partially to post here. I have Crohn's, I am 24 years old, and I was diagnosed when I was 11. I haven't had any surgeries, which is ironic since I want to become a surgeon myself soon.

I went from about 130 pounds to about 250 pounds in a very short time in high school, and then went back down to around 160 even faster. I have stayed around 160 ever since, with terrible stretch marks as my "badges of honor."

I only recently got serious about my training, but living in Japan has made things difficult at times. Still, I have lost about 12 pounds and gotten much stronger lately. Any advice (like that above) on what supplements or special training techniques that help fellow sufferers would be much appreciated, as are questions for me.

Just eat and train like a bodybuilder
get your veggies in and pro-biotic s and you are good to go
oh and fish oil caps seems to help

Still to this day ZERO issues ( but i give GOD alot of credit for that)

Anyone with either health affliction would be better served to determine any food allergies and avoid those foods at all costs.

Blood testing for food allergies is routine for conventional MD's, howver Meridian Stress Assessment is a much more accurate method and practiced by holistic practioners world wide.

remacaid and all the other drugs make my mom into a zombie...it took the doctors 6 years to diagnose her with chron's...now that she knows what it is shes fine tuned her diet (shes a nutrionist) down so that shes much better but still always in pain...shes on NO meds, none of them work for her, not even a bit. i hate that she has it cuz shes such a great woman, one of those people u just know shouldnt get a bad progressive disease not only cuz of how great a person she is but how well she takes care of her body
