liquid carbs around workout times like dextrose, gatorade, waxy maize, maltodextrin, etc.

a small coffee grinder, then add it to the shake and mix/blend. just a blender doesn't work well, the stuff tends to sink that way. you gotta get it into a powderish consistency for it to mix in really well.

ah.. trying not to mix fats and carbs?

you know you don't 'have' to add protein, it can just be a yummy oatmeal shake (just the oats ground up in vanilla rice milk or even water if you are going for low-GI only with a little bit of vanilla extract would probably taste really good....even use the flavored oatmeal too if you want, cinnamon makes a good carb shake, and again if you are avoiding sugar you can go with ground cinnamon+a little bit of stevia extract).

if all you're going for is more carbs and you don't care so much about the glycemic index, i'd go with bhman's gatorade suggestion. definately the most convenient and simplest option.

Make sure you use enough water when preparing the rice. It sounds too simple but the dryer the rice the harder it is to eat.
