Future, I have a question about footwear. Iv been squatting in tennis shoes and have always had a problem with my ankles. When I squat heavy, my ankles tend to roll out under the stress. My training partner suggests that this is because of my shoes. He suggested that I squat in a pair of flat shoes..ie. work boots or chucks. You said you trained in cross trainers and had no trouble at all, so Im thinking that the problem is somewhere else with my form. Ill try to get a video of my form if you think you could help me with this.

Great thread, by the way. This was the first thread of yours that I read and I have since been trying to read everything of yours that I can. Youre def. an inspiration for achieving such high numbers without drugs.

Thank you very much. I am working on pics for a thread on form from all points of the movement with a power and high bar squat.

As far as the shoes go I say whatever is comfortable. From what you are saying I would think that maybe you need to point your toes out a bit but this is guessing at this point until I can critique your form.

There was an oldtimer down at the dungeon today and he and my training partner worked the problem out. I wore some flat soled skate shoes that I have and went with a wider stance (shoulder width vs. hip width) and also pointed my toes out. Problem solved. The skate shoes are good too because theyre basically low top boots due to the thickness of the sides. No knee pain today after squatting. Given it was DE day and we only did short sets of box squats with lighter weights, but it was still nice to be able to walk out of there normally.

Powercleans were rough today though. Im staying super-light on those until I can work my form out correctly. Practice makes perfect I guess.

Do you guys have any tips for PC's?

This is very similar to the approach i use. Not exact, but same basic principles, i vary the rep range a little more in off season, then bear down closer to a meet. my last 4-6 weeks is geared more towards perfecting timing and technique to put all that strength i have built into a huge coordinated effort.

The only thing is, training this way for me, does not help my DL very much. ill do SLDLs of light day( i dont use a box) and that helps some, but with my T-Rex arms, i need to be pulling more. About every other or every 2 weeks for higher reps works for me- and again singles closer to the meet.

haha yea, i wish i could pull what squat raw. i would be satisfied with that. i want to hit around an 800 raw squat which will be about 900 in just wraps and a lil over 1100 in gear later on in 2007... still at 198s. and im hoping for for a paltry 705-715 DL, but that will still give me a huge PR total..
